Our wonderful hotel school and kitchen garden works with a great team of people.
Gerry Proctor MBE (Chair)
I see myself as a temporary chair until we can find someone with a better skill set to lead the project. I was Chair of Governors of the De La Salle Academy and also chair of Engage Liverpool that works with residents across the city centre and waterfront. I bring to the Board my contacts in the city and beyond and an ability to run meetings and work as a team player. I am passionate about this project and deeply committed to bringing a career pathway to the many young people in the area so that they can access good jobs in the Visitor Economy and hospitality profession. Our biggest challenge is raising the £500k required to deliver the La Salle Hotel School! Perhaps my strongest asset is the faith to drive my belief that this is possible!
With over 25 years hospitality experience and working for leading brands across the globe including InterContinental Hotels Group, Whitbread and Hilton Worldwide this has given me a unique insight into the challenges of developing value for money brands and upscale brands within the framework of a large international group. I am the Managing Director for Lu Ban Restaurant Group, an international joint venture with the Tianjin Food Group located in Cains Brewery Village.
I also have my own consultancy business Auberge – supporting hospitality businesses in their day to day operations or long term growth.
Project management is a key strength and with my experience of adding extensions on to existing hotels, opening new restaurant concepts and new hotel brands both as a General Manager onsite and as a Managing Director from a strategic overview this has proven vital to the success of these projects.
With a recognised strength as being a great networker, I maximise this to develop the businesses through commercial and social awareness.
I am passionate about supporting young people and helping them to succeed in life whether it is through work placements, apprenticeships or mentoring.
Having ‘left’ school at 16, with few academic qualifications, Craig has built, acquired and transformed a portfolio of local businesses over the past 15 years which include Everkool (an air conditioning, refrigeration and ventilation company) and Greenwood Hargreaves (an independent wholesale supplier and manufacturer).
Described by those around him as a ‘creative, tenacious, problem solver who delivers results, whatever the task’, Craig’s appetite for knowledge and ability to cultivate lasting, supportive relationships are amongst his many strengths.
Craig’s business’ achievements, commitment to working within his local communities, creation of apprenticeship opportunities and sponsorship of local sporting clubs (Croxteth Tigers under 12’s and Kirkdale Amateur Boxing Club) culminated in his recent award of ‘Young Entrepreneur of the Year’ by Downtown in Business.
In his younger days Craig boxed for Kirkdale ABC, representing England at amateur level, although his businesses, young family and volunteer roles keep him more than occupied these days.
